redefinition of my problem

Hello.
I wrote you a few minutes ago a message which was the following one:
-----------------
Hello.
I am writing you because I happen to encounter some problems with Abiword. I am running Windows XP and I associated the file extension .rtf with Abiword. When I try to double click on an rtf file present on the local disk (where is installed Abiword), it opens perfectly; only when I try this procedure with a file on my external drive, Abiword opens a blank file. Is there to your knowledge a manipulation that I can do to solve that? Thank you in advance.

-----------------
I ask you not to take this into account, as I got into the details and I think that the problem is not a disk-related problem but a problem related with characters management. Indeed, as I am French, I use accents in the names of my files and folders and it turns out that it is precisely from a folder with an accent in his name that I found myself unable to load the file in question. I renamed the folder and it worked.
I would therefore rephrase my question and ask you if you think that I can have Abiword handle paths correctly with accented letters.
Thank you.
Mickael
